The QR code firstly impressed me about two years ago, while I saw a big QR code attached outside wall of a building. At that time, I can only guess that it is some kind of encrypted code, but do not know what QR code represent for and how to use it.
The process of creating my own QR code for my blog generates my strong interest in it because I find that it is very easy to generate and simple to use after I install a QR code scanner APP on my iPad. After doing research and study online, I want to share something about QR code with people who might also be curious about it.
First, let us talk about the word “QR Code” itself. What is “QR Code”? QR code is abbreviated from Quick Response Code, which also reveals the most essential feature of this code. How quickly respond could QR code? It takes me one second to scan the QR code of my blog, and then the front-page of blog website appears on my iPad screen. The second feature of QR code is that it can provide greater storage capacity than barcode. QR code is two-dimensional (2D) matrix code that can hold thousands of alphanumeric characters of information, whereas bar code is linear one-dimensional codes and can only hold up to 20 numerical digits.
Due to QR code’s fast readability, huge storage capacity and ease of use, it has already been applied in many fields. The most popular application is converting and storing the URL information into QR code just as the one we generated for our blogs. Scanning the QR code through smart mobile phone, we can immediately read our peer blog without typing their blog address into browser. This efficient way for transferring information via QR code attracts many companies to use QR code as their advertising method. We can easily find some big QR code presented on the outside wall of some buildings in commercial area as the following picture. QR code is becoming more and more familiar to people. Maybe QR code will pervade every aspect of our daily lives someday in the future.

Hi Jingmei,
ReplyDeleteYou did a good job in explaining what QR codes are and how they are different from barcodes. And yes, as you said it is very easy to generate and use QR codes. Today most of the smart phones come with built-in apps to scan QR codes, I actually read your blog by scanning your QR code.
Except for a couple of sentence formations, rest of your blog is simple and easy to understand. I enjoyed reading your blog
I concur that these QR codes are super easy to create and allow for creative freedom unlike the barcodes, by letting the creators use colorful and interesting background images. When used in such a fashion they can be visually associated with brands.
ReplyDeleteI think 3rd line in the 3rd paragraph should have been "How quickly a QR code can respond?" instead of "How quickly respond could QR code?”.
However when I tried the MS Word's grammar and spell checker it did not catch that. May be you should use the criterion.ets.org to do the grammar and spelling checks before you post.
Except for some grammatical errors it is a very good introductory post on QR codes.
Hi Jingmei.
ReplyDeleteGreat job for the introduction about what QR code is, how to use it and how you like it. As you said, QR codes are both easy to scan and generate. I just thing that it would be better if you cite some links about QR code generating website. Obviously there are a lot of websites like it and they are all easy to find.
What is more, you have a good intuitive against QR code and you have completely showed your point of view. I agree with your point about QR codes. It is popular and easy to use right now. But I don't think QR codes are irreplaceable in the future based on some research.
All in all that is only my point of view. Great job for your work!
